So in the second movie, Dana goes to Egon about her baby and asks how Peter is. Egon replies something to the effect of "He was borderline for a while, then he went over the border." What did he mean by that? It kind of sounds like he said Peter tried to commit suicide or something.

I always took it Venkman just kind of "going nuts" or "even more nuts". Maybe some kind of nervous breakdown. In wider GBOT context, maybe referring to the way he threw himself into hitting on practically every client or incidental character with XX chromosomes (at least during Lorenzo Music's tenure; they started to neuter him pretty bad post-JMS)

Just a theory, of course.

I've always taken that sentence the literal way, as in "he's behaved like a borderline (--> unstable personality disorder) for a while, then he completely lost it".

I took it to signify how far Venkman fell in his attempt to stay in the public eye; I mean he's hosting a crappy psychic-themed talk show that seems to only attracts cranks and frauds (wonder if Vincent Basingame was ever on it?)
